Day 1
Yah today is the big day because Room 16, Parents and Mrs McNeil are going on camp to Camp Raukawa (Whanganui)! Everyone boarded the bus ready for the trip. The trip I think was about 3 or 4 hours but we made a pause at Kowhai Park in Whanganui and had Morning Tea. Off we go again broom broom and finally we are in Camp Raukawa.
As soon as we got there everyone got there, we sent to our cabins with our group to see what they are like, put our bags away and my group had made our beds and then geared on our gumboots. Once Room 16, Parents and Mrs McNeil all meet a wonderful lady named Robyn. Robyn told all of us all that we need to know and then took us on a tour around to see all of the events. After the tour we got into our groups and there are three groups and I am in group one.
My group was on the water slide first, we went there with an instructor and adults. Everyone had to have a turn, I only had two turns but on my first I stopped because I had my legs up on the slide.
Next up was the Burma trail! Burma trail is when you hold on to a rope and walk along following the rope blindfolded and are wearing helmets. I fell over onto the ground quite a lot, slipping over and banging into trees.
Straight after my group, group one were next on the Confidence course and I wasn’t feeling confidence but I still had ago. The Confidence course for me in the end was fun!
After the confidence course was lunch, then after lunch was the walk to the falls. The walk to the falls is a view of a waterfall. At the falls we skimmed rocks and through rock into the water.
It is now camp concert practise until the hooter blows to have dinner. My group of five girls, which includes me, are doing a dance to the Lazy Song which I thought was going great. The hooter blows but none of us girls heard it because we were in a room, doors closed and practising. Then we noticed and went and had a look in where we were eating and everyone was sitting at tables.
Dinner time! For dinner was chicken pie with honey carrots.
Straight after dinner we had a game of spotlight. Throughout the game when a few of my friends and I were running and then I ran straight at the fence and I also ran into Shayla and banged our heads.
Now it is time to go to bed and the lights out.
Day 2
Waking up, getting out of bed, I have a shower and get changed into my clothes. Hooter blows everyone in their groups.
Breakfast!
Finally, off to our first activate which was archery. Archery is when you use a bow and arrow. The aim of the game is to aim the arrow at the target with the bow and shoot! I thought Archery at this moment is the best activate I had done.
Now it is morning tea!
Second event of the day was the waterslide again, but this time only two people went on the waterslide naming Aaron and Caleb. I didn’t want to go on the waterslide because I didn’t want to get wet before Kayaking/Canoeing and the water is very gross.
Now it is lunchtime and for lunch we had pizza, Yum!
Walking back to the main area where we get ready to go to our next activate which was Rock Climbing and then Abseiling back down with Ra. There was an easy, medium and hard rock wall to climb. I had a go on the medium rock wall first and it was the only time I went on. I thought I had done the medium wall quite fast for a first time.
Next after Rock Climbing was Kayaking/Canoeing with T! Kayaking is when you sit in a boat single by yourself and you have a paddle to paddle along the water. There are kayaking boats for two people together. After we had a swim then headed off back to the main area.
We had free time until dinner.
The hooter blows and it is dinner.
Next we had a Campfire while eating marshmallows on a stick. I had accidently burnt the first marshmallow I had eaten it and it wasn’t very yum but it melted in the middle. Tonight we are playing Spotlight again but this time I didn’t hurt myself. Wait I did trip over on a rock though. I also got in a few times.
Day 3
Already out of bed, changed and cleaned up for now!
The hooter blows and everyone’s out of their Cabins going to have breakfast. I had margarine and jam on toast.
In our groups after breakfast ready for the first events and group one is on Flying Kiwi with Jess. Walking there following Jess, as soon as we got there she put us into groups of three but there was one group with only two. One person from each group had grabbed one harness and Jess told us that it is a race each time we put them on and off.
Morning Tea!
Next event is Low Ropes with both T and Ra. Before we went onto the Low Ropes we were taught how to be spotters. Learning to be spotters is learning how to walk like them so for the people that lose their balance along the ropes get help get their balance again by the spotters of four. We still have another activate which is when there are two platforms and a swinging rope. Everyone is on a platform and they have to try and swing to the other platform. The grass is like water or something and if you fall then everyone has to restart.
Lunch Time!
After Low Ropes is Orienteering. Orienteering was when we got a map of the camp and a piece of paper. On the map it marks the location where the stamps are and you stamp the piece of paper with letters on it.
Final event was How Ropes. First of all everyone had put on harnesses and then one by one everyone climbed up a ladder then stood up, took a picture and then leaned back feet flat and then going down freely.
Dinner!
It is now the Concert night where everyone is going to perform what they have been practising for. Performances are done and now it is our turn. We danced in sleeping bags but not throughout the whole song. Then the rest of the people that hadn’t gone had their turn.
We had another Campfire eating marshmallows again.
Playing Spotlight for the third and final time and I hadn’t got in once.
Everyone is in bed and the lights are now out!
Day 4
Today is the day we head back home! Before we went home we went to the pools in Whanganui for a swim and to the Kowhai Park again for lunch.
Bye!
